Show-Me State offers greater transparency for insurance consumers

Missouri becomes fifth state to provide access to insurance company filings

Jefferson City, Mo. - The Missouri Department of Insurance today announced the implementation of a new online tool that allows consumers to view insurance company filing records. Missouri becomes the fifth state to use SERFF Filing Access (SFA) to make such records accessible to the public.

"We appreciate the leadership of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners for its work in developing this new service for state insurance regulators and Missouri consumers," said John M. Huff, director of the Department of Insurance. "Launching this new online service is yet another example of our department's commitment to greater transparency through technology."

Consumers can now access insurance company filings for rates, rules and forms through the SFA website at any time. There is no charge. Filings will also continue to be available to consumers through a public computer kiosk located in the department.

SERFF Filing Access provides access to open public records, for which the Division of Market Regulation has legal custody and control. Rates, rules and forms are filed with the department when required by Missouri law. There are some instances, such as health insurance rates, where state law does not require insurance companies to make the information available to the public.
