Four, $1,500 scholarships are awarded to graduating high school seniors who will be full-time students in accredited Missouri colleges or universities and who plan to enroll in insurance, risk management or actuarial science courses. In addition, two $2,500 scholarship and five $2,000 scholarships are awarded to college juniors or seniors majoring in insurance or related courses in a Missouri college or university.
"The MIEF scholarships are a great opportunity for Missouri students who are interested in an insurance related profession to get assistance with their education expenses” said Missouri Insurance Director Chlora Lindley-Myers. "Missouri has a very healthy insurance market and offers students some great career choices."
A new scholarship, named for C. Donald Ainsworth, a longtime insurance executive and a former Director of the Missouri Department of Insurance, has been added. This $2,500 scholarship will be awarded to a qualified college student who is from the St. Louis, MO, area and is majoring in insurance or a related field of study in a Missouri college or university. Additionally, the $2,500 C. Lawrence Leggett Scholarship is awarded to a college junior or senior. Leggett was the longest-serving director of the Department of Insurance.
Additional instructions and applications for the scholarships are available on MIEF's website. MIEF was formed as a non-profit corporation in March 1991, to promote public insurance education. MIEF provides its services based solely upon contributions and proceeds of special events.
