Missouri Department of Insurance invites industry to Director's Regulatory Summit
Day-long conference in Columbia to focus on compliance with state law
Insurance professionals doing business in Missouri are invited to the Director's Regulatory Summit, hosted by the Missouri Department of Insurance. Director John M. Huff, host of the summit, says it's an ideal opportunity for representatives of Missouri's insurance industry to learn best practices for compliance with state laws and regulations and providing a competitive market for Missouri consumers.
The day-long summit will be held in Columbia Dec. 6 at the Reynolds Alumni Center on the University of Missouri campus. Huff encourages insurance agents and executives, as well as professionals working in compliance, legal, claims, form filing, accounting and other areas, to attend.
"This educational conference is an opportunity for insurers and agents to learn about Missouri insurance laws and regulators' expectations for compliance," said Huff. "Consumer protection is our department's number-one priority, and an important part of that is a well-educated insurance industry."
Huff says the Director's Regulatory Summit will feature informative presentations from department leadership that address the key regulatory issues for Missouri's insurance industry. Topics include:
- The agent investigation process
- The consumer complaint process
- Financial exams
- Form and rate filing
- Market conduct exams and investigations
- Common roadblocks for agent licensing and renewal
Representatives from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners will also provide information on the SERFF online filing system. SERFF is used by insurers filing forms and rates with Missouri's insurance department and other state regulators across the country.
More information and registration forms are available at insurance.mo.gov/summit. Attendees can register and pay the $35 fee online, or if they prefer, by mail. Seating is limited, and the registration deadline is Nov. 21.
Missouri-licensed insurance agents can receive six hours of continuing education credit for attending the entire conference.
